About Sant Gadge Maharaj College

The Sant Gadge Maharaj College was established in the year 1972. The college imparts education at Degree level in the field of BCOM and BMS (affiliated Mumbai University) and at the Junior Level (11th and 12th) in the field of Commerce with I.T Subject. (Affiliated to Maharashtra State Board)

The college also provides Job Opportunities to its students with the help of various placement agencies. The teaching staff of the college is dedicated, sincere and hardworking. College also conducts various activities like Blood Donation Camps, Cleanliness Drives, NSS Rural Camp and lectures on 'Andha Shraddha' (Blind Faith/Superstitions) etc.

The S. G. M. College holds a distinction of conducting evening degree college since 1972-1990 for the employed poor students. The college administration is not only considerate but practically incorporated help to our students especially economically unsound as well as reserve category students. The college provides extra lectures for the repeater students in subjects where results are poor as well as extra lectures for regular students cyclostyled notes are distributed free of charge the book bank scheme is particularly for the above students on a payments of nominal deposit. The college has health centre near library, which is looked after qualified doctors who attends to the needs of the students in case of medicine, treatment and even counseling. The college library is having 14,209 books and big number of magazines to help students gather knowledge and also update general knowledge, Newspapers journals in different languages are subscribed to cater to the students professing different languages like Marathi, Hindi, English and Gujarati. Free Internet facility is provided to students in the computer labs and library for educational research.

About Bharat Education Society

The Bharat Education Society was started in 1948 by late Shri. Bahusaheb D. Palkandwar, great educationist, freedom fighter and social worker who was awarded Basawaratna by late Dr. Zail Singh, acting president of India.

The main objective of starting Bharat Education Society in Khetwadi area was to help extend education to the underprivileged in South Mumbai especially in Khetwadi. He was helped by social workers, industrialists, politicians, philanthropist, educationists and the notable among them are Late Padmavibhushan Dr. Usha Mehta, who was the chairperson of Bharat Education Society for about a decade and half. Late Mr. V. R. Nimbkar President, Late Mr. P. S. Kuka, chairperson of Bharat Education Society, late Dr. N. N. Kailash, Ex-education Minister of Maharashtra, Chairman of B. E. S. late Shri Kannamwar, Ex-chief Minister of Maharashtra late Slhri. Namjoshi, Ex-education Minister of Maharashtra late Shri His-Excellency Selarm, Ex-Lt. Govenor of Pondichery Shri Tapase, Ex-Minister of Maharashtra Dr. B. D. Jatti, Ex-Vice President and Ex-Acting President of India Late Shri. S. Nijalingappa, Ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Balasaheb Bharde, Ex-speaker of Maharashtra, late Shri Himmatbhai Khira, Late Shri. R. R. Kanabar and Shri. C. I. Vakil, late Shri. G. N. Hadikyal, Prof. S. A. Upadhaya, Sanskrit scholar of Bharatiya Vlidhya Bhavan.

The Bharat Education Society can boast of receiving motivation from Saint and Seers like late Shri Sant Gadge Maharaj, late Shri Sant Tukadojee Maharaj. The legacy of Bharat Education Society is continued by the able leadership of chairperson Dr. S. S. Mavlankar, General Secretary Dr. Satish T. Shah, Trustee Dr. Shrimathi Kumud S. Shah, the able daughter of late Shri Bhabusaheb Palkandwar, founder of Bharat Education Society, Shri Narendrabhai R. Kanaber, President, Dr. R. S. Chaugule, Vice-president, Shri. Sudhindra Hulyalkar, Treasurer and host of many eminent personalities as the members of Bharat Education Society.
